Indiana - Harper's History Vol.1 #15

  by Scott Harper

The state of Indiana is right next door to Ohio, where I grew up. Ohio, despite what many people seem to think, has a wealth of sightings, and encounters with Sasquatch on record. Indiana is an extension of that with recorded sightings going back well over one hundred years.

The newspaper "The Saturday Courier" carried a report in 1839 of a "wild child"—juvenile Sasquatch—having been spotted swimming in a lake.  Two farmers spotted a Sasquatch running into the cover of woods near the town of Sailor, Indiana in 1897.
1937 saw an effort made by a fisherman in Warrick County to capture a Sasquatch by use of bear traps. The man believed the creature to be living in a cave along the Ohio River. The man claimed that the creature killed his dog the previous year. No report seems to be given on whether or not the  man had any success with his attempts at catching the Sasquatch.

Over twenty residents of the town of Thorntown, Indiana reported seeing a "gorilla", which had protruding teeth, in the area. Two fishermen claimed to have been chased by the creature. This occurred in 1949.
In 1953, near Winamac, in Pulaski County, a group of children saw a 7-foot-tall Sasquatch near dense woods. They claimed the creature had only one eye. Claims were also made that it touched one of the children.

August of 1955 brought in a report from a woman who claimed that her leg was grabbed by a hairy hand while she swam in the Ohio River. There are numerous reports on file of Sasquatch having been seen swimming, or partaking in other activities in water—especially grabbing fishing nets.
Rabbit hunters, in 1967, in the Wabash River area, found a trail of 16-inch-long footprints in the snow, in a field. A "rank, musty smell" was also noticed. The hunters were so badly frightened, that they fled the area without looking for other evidence, or following the trail of footprints into the woods.

Sightings reports of Sasquatch in the state of Indiana continue to pile up in the present—especially in the more heavily forested southern area of the state. Some researchers hypothesize that the Sasquatch in the very southern part of the state use caves along the Ohio River as shelters. This has, as noted above, been the thought of some people who have had sightings near the Ohio River, as well. The area, rich in vegetation, and wildlife, would provide abundant resources for a population of the creatures.

Illinois - Harper's History Vol.1 #14

by Scott Harper

As is the case with most states, Illinois boasts a number of sightings of Sasquatch which took place before the famous Patterson/Gimlin film, and tracks in 1967.

In 1922 a reward of $500 was offered for the capture—dead or alive—of a Wildman in Brown County, Illinois. The creature, it was claimed, had taken up residence in an old mine, and was raiding nearby farms at night. Claims were made that is was carrying away sheep and calves during these nocturnal raids. Attempts were made to kill the creature, but it is unknown if any succeeded.

In 1929 a group of farmers sought a "Simian" creature that had been seen in Jo Davies County. No word was given as to whether or not they caught the creature.

1942 saw a hunt for a "mysterious animal" with "a wildcat's scream" in Jefferson County, Illinois. A report claims that 1,500 hunters turned out to try to find the creature. They failed to do so. Could it have simply left the area due to the huge number of people searching the woods for it?

Two women, in 1945, were sleeping in the living room of a house. They were awaked by the sound of the front screen door opening. Looking out the front windows, they saw a Sasquatch on the front porch. They watched the creature move by the windows, stopping at the front door. It bent down to look in at them before leaving through the screen door. It made no attempt to enter the house beyond the screened-in front porch. This took place in White County.

Present day sees a lot more sightings in the state of Illinois. Could this be due to an increasing Sasquatch population in the state? Or maybe, in the United States as a whole? Or is it due to deforestation, and other human encroachment upon territory formerly held by the Sasquatch in the area?

Idaho - Harper's History Vol.1 #13

by Scott Harper

Anyone interested in the subject of Sasquatch is probably most familiar with the state of Idaho due to Dr. Jeff Meldrum. Dr. Meldrum is based at Idaho State University, and has become one of the handful of scientists who take the subject of Sasquatch seriously. He has appeared in numerous documentaries on the topic. He has also written an excellent book on the subject. Historically, Idaho has a bit more to offer on the topic of Sasquatch than just Dr. Meldrum, though.

1893 saw the publication of Theodore Roosevelt's book "The Wilderness Hunter". In it, he included the now-classic account of a trapper in Idaho who was apparently slain by a Sasquatch, while in camp, as his trapping partner gathered beaver traps.

In 1902 the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald ran a story telling of an eight-foot-tall, hair—covered creature that attacked a group of ice skaters on a frozen lake in January of that year. According to the article, the creature wielded a club, and "yelled" at the skaters as it went after them. The skaters managed to escape. The article doesn't mention if any were harmed in the attack. The article wraps up by saying that twenty men were tracking the creature in an effort to capture it. No word of their level of success is given. The attack took place in Bannock County.

A hunter filed a report in 1957 in which he claimed a 9-foot-tall Sasquatch leapt from cover, and snatched up a deer the hunter had just shot. According to the report, the Sasquatch tucked the dead animal under one arm, and walked off with it—even after the man shot the Sasquatch in the back with his 30.06.

In the summer of 1963 an 8-year-old boy began climbing on a cedar tree his father had just felled. The boy, and his father, saw what appeared to have been a juvenile Sasquatch. The creature leapt onto the tree with the boy—about eight inches in front of him, according to the father's estimate! When the boy screamed, the small Sasquatch fled. This took place on Moscow Mountain. Interestingly, in the same part of the state, in early 2017, a 50-year-old woman hit a deer with her car. She claimed that a Sasquatch had chased the deer onto the road.

While there are a fairly steady stream of sightings coming from the northern part of the state today, there isn't a whole lot to be found in decades past. This makes me wonder if Sasquatch haven't simply passed through on occasion in years past, but have settled into the region more recently.

Another thing to ponder is the claims made by some that the US military sometimes—or frequently, depending upon the claim—venture into the forests in parts of the USA for the sole task of exterminating Sasquatch. The reasons for these outings vary, again, depending upon the claim. Some reports I've read state that these killings are to eliminate groups of Sasquatch that have turned hostile toward humans. Others claim that they're simply to keep the general public from ever getting concrete evidence for the existence of Sasquatch. Still others quote connections with the logging industry as the reason for these. Imagine what would happen to the logging industry as a whole if Sasquatch were put on a national endangered species list!

Regardless of the reasoning behind them, if these killings by the US military do take place, Sasquatch, intelligent beings that they are, would be sure to adapt. They would head into places where they've historically spent less time in an attempt to hide. This makes me wonder if such military missions aren't at least part of the reason why Sasquatch are seen more frequently in present days in Idaho than they used to be. If the US military is targeting Sasquatch in states with historically higher populations, and number of sightings, it's possible that the Sasquatch are adapting by fanning out, and heading into places they've frequented less in the past. Could this have something to do with the more recent higher number of sightings of Sasquatch in Idaho?

Sasquatch wouldn't recognize state borders proclaimed by humans. They would just go where they could make a living the best at a given time of year. Regardless, it seems apparent that Idaho is Sasquatch territory—one way or the other.

The Wild Boy of Kentucky and Northern California Sasquatch Stories - Books by Dan Lindholm

The Wild Boy of Kentucky and
Northern California Sasquatch Stories

An Incredible Friendship Story and

One Man's Lifetime of Sasquatch Experiences

True Sasquatch Stories by Dan Lindholm

The Wild Boy of Kentucky

The amazing real life Sasquatch story of Michael Thomas Case was relayed to Dan Lindholm by Michael Thomas Case as he lay on his death bed. One of his final wishes was to get this story out before he died. Dan's last contact with Michael was through his messenger while he lay in hospice care, but it was his sister there by his side texting Dan. She said that Thomas wished to tell the rest of the story and that she would dictate it for him and send it to Dan, along with an illustration of a glyph from the story. That was the last Dan ever heard from Michael or anyone in his family. When Dan posted the finished story for Michael a couple days later there was no response, and Michael never again posted to his timeline.
The finished product here is an amazing short story telling the tale of a friendship and bond born of the innocence of youth and the less complicated atmosphere of a simpler time and place. Michael said his story started in 1967 and lasted until 1976. We never get to hear what happened between 1970 and 1976. It's indeed a shame that Michael wasn't able to relay the rest of the story, but what he did give us is a treasure trove of information and a heartfelt, genuine story of a man's incredible relationship with a young Sasquatch in his youth. If it was scripted, there would be more to this story, but unfortunately reality doesn't always end with the hero riding off into the sunset.

Here is an excerpt from The Wild Boy of Kentucky.

Just as I thought we were getting somewhere, I heard a noise behind us that made a “Huaraa” sound. So I turned around to see what was making the sound, and not seeing anything I turned back around, and Orb was gone. I didn't even hear him leave. It was like he just vanished without making a sound. I even listened to see if I could hear anybody walking, and not a sound could be heard. So I got up and was about to leave when I saw something on the ground.

It was another diagram. This time it was a circle with the X in the center of it. Not like the one Russ had shown me nor was it like the first one I had found up behind the house. When I got ready to leave I realized that I didn't know where I was, we were too busy playing. I didn't pay attention to how far we had gone from the house. At the time I tried to remember and was thinking to myself, “Did his lips move when he spoke or what?” So I said to myself, “Next time I will be sure to take notice and see.”

Nothing looked like any place I had been. That’s when it hit me that I was lost, and Orb was gone. I didn't have a clue how to get back home. I started to walk down the hill, in hopes that I might find a road at the bottom of it. Poppa always said if you are ever in the woods and lose your way, just head downhill. You will come out somewhere and find help.

Then all of a sudden someone or something, was throwing little rocks in front of me. So I stopped to see what was going on and the rocks stopped. But when I started back walking, they started back up again. So to avoid being hit by one of the rocks, I turned to the left and kept on walking. Then the rocks stopped. So I walked for a while and then, here they came again. This time one about hit me in the head. So I turned back down the hill. Once again the rocks stopped coming so I walked on for a while longer. Then, as if someone was guiding me, the rocks started up again. This time I turned to my right and started to walk, and the rocks kept coming. I then turned to my left and took a few steps and, no more rocks. As I looked up ahead of me I could see our house, and in a few more minutes or so I was back at the creek behind our house.

Northern California Sasquatch Stories

Northern California Sasquatch Stories is a Sasquatch autobiography that tells the stories of Dan Lindholm and people he knew from childhood through early adulthood. Some of these true stories are terrifying. All of them are interesting. A campsite destroyed, a sighting of twins, a dead Bigfoot floating down a river and a pickup attacked by Bigfoot are a few of the incredible details of these home grown Northern California stories. Dan Lindholm's own incredible Sasquatch encounter at Pinnacle Rock is documented in detail. A number of these stories including Dan's encounter can be seen in audio/video format on the Bigtruth YouTube Channel under Northern California Sasquatch Stories.

Here is an excerpt from Northern California Sasquatch Stories

Covelo is located about thirty miles from Hwy 101 between Laytonville and Willits. It’s a long and winding mountain road through the middle of nowhere.

Krista’s Uncle was driving down that lonesome highway in his little pickup. He had gone to do some business in town that day, which probably meant Willits or maybe even Ukiah. He was in a hurry to get back to Covelo because someone was throwing a big party that night. It was late afternoon and he had crossed the Eel River and was scurrying down the winding road when all of the sudden, his little pickup began to swerve all over the place, and he thought he must have gotten a blowout. As he started to slow down he glanced in his rearview mirror and was stunned to see that a huge hairy beast was riding on his bumper, leaning over and beating the heck out of his tailgate. He didn’t know what it was exactly, but he didn’t want it on the back of his pickup, so he jerked the wheel back and forth and eventually he was successful in shaking it off.

He proceeded to Covelo and to the big party thinking that he wouldn’t tell anyone about what had happened. He didn’t want people to think he was nuts. He arrived and parked his little pickup and made his way inside the house. There were already a lot of people there, both inside and outside the house. As I said, he didn’t plan to say anything about what had happened on the Covelo Road but his face gave him away. People started asking him immediately what was wrong, because he was white as a sheet.

He shrugged off the inquiries and remained silent about his experience for another couple of minutes and then someone burst through the door asking what had happened to his tailgate. Everybody funneled out the front door and went out to look. Sure enough, his tailgate was all dented from the inside out and it did look like a huge fist had indeed done it. He saw no other option and went ahead and told them what had happened.

Krista said that he never did get the tailgate fixed and drove around Covelo for years in that little truck. Just a few years ago, I presented this story through my Northern California Sasquatch Stories video series on the Bigtruth YouTube Channel to a group of Northern California Natives on Facebook. A lot of the people in the group live in, or have family still, in Covelo. Somebody chimed in right away about this story. It seems the story was well known around the area and she confirmed that he had indeed driven around in the truck that had been attacked by Bigfoot for many years following the incident.

Here's what the first reviewer had to say about Northern California Sasquatch Stories.

Hawaii - Harper's History Vol.1 #12

by Scott Harper

Think about the state of Hawaii, and a lot of things come to mind—beaches, palm trees, pineapples, and luaus. Sasquatch probably don't make the list for most people. However, in recent years there have been sightings.

The earliest one I've found is from 1973. A group of people laid out catfish traps in a river at night. The next morning they went to gather the traps, and the fish. They heard something screaming in nearby bushes. They ran, and encountered an 8-foot-tall, male, hairy being walking toward them. Turning back toward the river, they spotted a 7-foot-tall female coming toward them from that direction—presumably what had been screaming at them moments earlier. The friends changed direction, running away, and leaving the creatures behind to help themselves to the fish in the traps.

It's only in the past few decades that sightings of what we think of as Sasquatch have been coming from the state of Hawaii. Why? The leading thought seems to be that the creatures have stowed away aboard cargo vessels traveling from the mainland United States to Hawaii. Though such ships are inspected in an effort to keep invasive species from reaching the sandy shores of Hawaii, not everything is kept out. Recently, a 15-pound female raccoon was discovered walking across a desk on board a cargo vessel bound for Hawaii. If such an animal can, it's assumed, simply walk on board undiscovered, why couldn't an intelligent, curious creature such as a Sasquatch sneak aboard once in a while?

Historically, though, in keeping with the main theme of these articles, Hawaii has other things to take the place of Sasquatch. These are called the Menehune (meh-neh-HOO-neh), or Little People. They're said to be short-statured humanoid beings, roughly 2-feet-tall, and hairy. They are said to hide in the lush forests during the day, and only come out at night.

While there are many who do not believe in the Menehune, it's interesting that a census from 1820 listed 65 people as Menehune. And many structures are credited to having been built by the Menehune—roads, ponds, temples, dams, etc. It seems possible that the Menehune were on the islands before modern man, and may still exist as a very small population, hiding out, not wanting to be rediscovered.

One hypothesis is that the Menehune were, or are, actually modern-day descendents of the so-called "hobbits" of the island of Flores. Skeletal remains of Homo Floresienses were discovered on Flores in 2003. Some people think that they had, at some point in the past, migrated to the Hawaiian Islands. Once there, they became known as the Menehune.

Despite a tiny handful of modern-day sightings, though, nothing much historically seems to be found regarding the Menehune beyond a handful of legends that get told over and over again. Strangely, nothing at all regarding the Menehune seems to appear prior to the late 1700s. Is this evidence of arrival of the beings on the islands then? Is this cause to believe that the Menehune are, as so many people think, nothing more than a myth? Or has the apparent arrival of Sasquatch on the islands had something to do with the disappearance of the Menehune in recent years?

Georgia - Harper's History Vol.1 #11

by Scott Harper

The people of Georgia commonly use a variety of alternative names for Sasquatch, including "skunk ape", "swamp ape", "booger", and "wood booger" among others.

Call them what you will, there are a lot of stories regarding these creatures floating around the state. However, many of them carry the air of tall tales. There are accounts out there of them screaming at people in English, riding on the back of horse-and-buggies, and even being 13-feet-tall, and able to survive being shot with multiple rifles at the same time. I've even run across an account in which a man carrying a scythe supposedly fought a Sasquatch. Can I say with one hundred percent certainty that these accounts are nothing more than stories? No. But these seem unlikely to me. Still, there are more credible historical accounts to come out of the Peach State, too.

Early in 1923 reports were made of a Sasquatch breaking into several buildings belonging to the Church of Latter Day Saints. No follow-up on these reports seems to have taken place.
In 1934 a group of children claimed to have spotted a Sasquatch running down a dirt road while making car noises. Maybe the creature decided to mimic a car for some reason after hearing one?
In 1943 a group of men in Georgia reported killing a Sasquatch. Something—the creature, presumably—had been killing calves, and sheep on farms in the area. The legs had been torn from many of the victims, testifying to the strength of the killer. This probably took place in northern Georgia, given that the men reported to have chased the Sasquatch onto a mountain while tracking it. They claimed to have shot the creature sixty times, killing it. However, details are lacking as to what happened next—including what became of the body.

A group of dogs cornered a Sasquatch on the porch of a house near Boston, Georgia in 1951. A man and his wife both claimed to have witnessed this. The man shot at the creature, but the Sasquatch fled.
In 1956, near Columbus, Georgia, multiple witnesses spotted a 7-foot-tall Sasquatch standing beside a road.
A 10-year-old boy saw what he was positive was a Sasquatch watching him on a 98-acre farm in Troup county in 1960. This sighting took place after the discovery of calves and goats that had been found dead.
1961 brought in an account from Fulton county in which a group of young boys spotted what they took to be a gorilla sheltering in an unfinished basement under a house. They threw rocks at the creature, which "smiled" back at them. My guess would be that the "smile" was actually a threat display. Later, red eyes were seen looking in a window at night, and half-eaten apples, and large footprints were discovered close to the house.

One end of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, or the Appalachian Trail as it is more commonly referred to, is in Georgia. Northern Georgia, at Springer Mountain, to be exact. The Appalachian Trail was completed in 1937. It isn't only humans who use the trail. Many Sasquatch reports are given from the entire 2,200 miles of the trail. Apparently, Sasquatch like the easy pathway provided by the Appalachian Trail.
Lizard Men sightings are also reported in Georgia's swampy areas. Despite the name, many researchers suspect that the lizard men are actually sasquatch that are simply covered in greenery from the swamps. Whether this coverage is an intentional attempt at keeping cool, camouflage, or something else isn't known.

Wood booger, Sasquatch, Lizard Men, or something else—whatever you choose to call them, they seem to have been living in the state of Georgia for quite some time.
